JACY BRIE BARNWELL

Jacy B. Barnwell is Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has dedicated the last 15 years of her career practicing in the oil and gas industry, after initially beginning her career in litigation.  In this time, she has invested in a firm practice focused on finding creative, practical solutions for her clients in curing title defects and negotiating and drafting various agreements and related documents.  Jacy has experience examining mineral and surface property rights issues in Texas and North Dakota; drafting drilling, division order and limited acquisition title opinions; negotiating and drafting oil and gas leases, assignments, leasehold lien instruments, purchase sale agreements and related business development agreements and developing customized formats specifically designed to address the needs, systems and methods implemented by her client’s division order analysts.  In addition, Jacy has made in-house presentations to clients’ attorneys, land groups and division order analyst groups covering property rights, title issues and related oil and gas legal issues. Admissions: State Bar of Texas (2003); United States Federal Court, Southern District of Texas (2005); North Dakota State Bar (2011); Education:  Texas A&M University (B.S., 1998); University of Houston Law Center (J.D., 2002); Memberships: State Bar of Texas; State Bar of North Dakota; Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas; Associate Member of the Houston Association of Petroleum Landmen (HAPL); Austin Professional Landmen's Association (APLA); Houston Bar Association (HBA)


BILL C. BOYD

Bill C. Boyd is Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has over 40 years experience in the preparation of title opinions covering private, state, and federal lands located onshore, in state waters, and on the Outer Continental Shelf. He has utilized this experience in preparing limited opinions required in the due diligence phase of the acquisition of producing oil and gas properties, as well as the customary drilling, supplemental, and division order opinions associated with the exploration and development of oil and gas properties. Bill has extensive experience in the preparation of deeds, purchase and sale agreements, leases, farm-out agreements, joint operating agreements, and other documents associated with an oil and gas practice. He also represents land and mineral owners in numerous leasing and related matters.  Prior to joining Marlatt & Barnwell, Bill was a partner with Dow Golub Remels & Beverly and a shareholder in the Oil, Gas, and Energy Resources Section of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe & Dawson, PC.  Bill has made several presentations for the Oklahoma City Association of Professional Landmen (OCAPL) and the West Houston Association of Professional Landmen (WHAPL). Admissions: State Bar of Texas (1978); Education:  University of Texas (B.A., 1975); South Texas College of Law (J.D., 1978); Distinctions & Memberships: AV®Preeminent rated by Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory (highest rating for Legal Ability and General Ethical Standards); Board Certified in Oil, Gas and Mineral Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. State Bar of Texas; Oil, Gas and Energy Resources Law Section of the State Bar of Texas; Houston Bar Association (HBA)


LORI L. MARLATT (February 24, 1966 - January 4, 2023)

Lori L. Marlatt was one of the founding partners of Marlatt Barnwell & Boyd, PLLC. Prior to forming Marlatt Barnwell & Boyd, PLLC, Lori worked for Jackson Walker, L.L.P.; Apache Corporation; Burlington Resources and Dow, Golub, Remels & Beverly. She dedicated over 30 years serving her clients and accumulating lifelong friendships throughout the industry.
